TINY HOUSES – THE MOVEMENT

Tiny houses have become a mainstream trend in most of the world. The psychology behind tiny houses is to live modestly while still conserving resources.

There are a few motivations behind the tiny house movement:

  • environmental consciousness
  • self-sufficiency
  • and it has a positive influence on one’s emotional state and well-being

A standard size for tiny houses will approximately be between 9 square meters and 37 square meters. It sounds tiny does it not? People make a tiny house work by utilizing every nook and cranny available in the house. This also “forces” you to live a life of minimalism and to constantly declutter the space you have available.

When the movement started, tiny houses were seen as plain structures but as it grew and got popular, the shape and accessibility of tiny houses have also revolutionized. Now you can design tiny houses according to any style known. It can be double story, loft style, it can look like a modernized caravan, it can be a tiny house on wheels and the options are endless.

A tiny house I would love to live in would be the Teewah 7.2 which is designed and built by Aussie Tiny Houses in Australia. What attracts me to this tiny house will be the low environmental footprint it leaves behind. I love how it allows for indoor-outdoor living and how it connects with nature. The interior material use is lovely and they maximized the natural light that filters into the tiny house.

When looking to buy a tiny house or build one yourself, there are many options available to make it as self sufficient as possible. You can have a rain catcher installed which then gives you easy access to water and the toilets that get installed are automatic compost makers, this is beneficial when you want to be a 100% self-sustainable.

The options for tiny houses are endless and the movement is far from over.
