Anecke Greyling is a Photographer & Illustrator in the Eastern Cape & the Founder of “Ckreate“. We asked her 12 Questions where she shares more about her passion for the creative industry.
1. What/who inspired you as a child/teenager to pursue the creative industry?
I can’t pinpoint one person that started it all, but both my parents have always been really supportive and excited about my dream of becoming a graphic designer and artist. I remember my dad taking me to the the Art exhibition’s on North Campus art faculty – and how excited they were for me to study the BVA course.
2. Where & what did you study and what part of your course was your favorite?
I studied Bachelors in Visual Arts, at Nelson Mandela University and to be very honest my favorite thing was the amazing friends I made and the fact that I have a degree in the bag. The course itself was, interesting…
3. What do you do when you face a creative block?
That is always different, but the thing that works most of the time – is going to a new coffee shop or visiting my favorite spots and just sitting and illustrating something that no one will see. It takes the pressure off and let’s me go crazy with colours and characters.
4. What do you find the most challenging about the artistic industry?
I think in the beginning and while I was studying the biggest thing for me to wrap my head around was the competitiveness between the creatives. But the more I do it just because I love it and want to support other artist, the more I meet amazing people that rather support than compete, which is very exciting.
5. You are the founder of “Ckreate” ,what would you say is the secret to a successful art driven business?
I think from the start, decide on a reason why you would like to start your business. My reason was to rekindle my love for art and through that inspire others to start creating as well. This makes it easier to choose clients and jobs, if it isn’t something I love or that inspires me it makes it easier to say no, and with that I keep everything I do in-brand.
6. What excites you most at the moment, Photography or Illustrating?
Definitely illustrating, I think the fact that I studied photography really took my love for the art. Maybe it will come back one day.
7. After a hard days work as a creator, what do you do to relax?
Drink coffee, haha. Sometimes watch Friends
8. Is there any other creative fields that you would love to pursue?
I love Interior Design and would love to play around with that someday, who knows!
9. Any artist that inspire you at the moment & why?
Megan Galante, I absolutely love her colour palette and her flat style art. Really think she is setting the tone for any artist at the moment.
10. You are engaged & currently busy with wedding planning, as a photographer yourself , how does it feel placing that trust in someone else to capture your perfect day & what are the things you looking out for while choosing your Photographer/Cinematographer?
That is such a tricky question. I absolutely love telling stories through my photography and illustrations, so from the start I definitely looked for someone that shows the tone and story of the day. I hope that answers the question, haha.
11. What is your favorite restaurant/coffee shop in your hometown?
No, this is the worst question! Can I give my top 5 along with the mood I’m in?
- Seattle Coffee – For early morning dates with my fiance.
- Conquer Tea Lounge – For inspiration, and something sweet.
- Sherwood Gardens – When I’m looking to buy another house plant and want Ice Coffee.
- Holiday Coffee – Just when I want the best cup of coffee.
- Grass Roof – For family gatherings and celebrations (We went there the morning after our engagement)
