In my third year I had to design a sacred space in the Baakens Valley area in Port Elizabeth. I was inspired by the curve of the cliff and wanted the building to feel like a hidden lookout point that can’t be seen from the road. The sacred pavilion is covered with a green roof and provides a beautiful space with natural light that filters through in different ways.

With this design I wanted to eliminate the gap between the walkway and the cliff by adding a natural pond which makes the walkway feel like a jetty and also re introduces ecosystems that is endemic to the Baakens Valley.
