PHOTOGRAPHY TRIP 1 – THE KAROO

The Karoo, Die Karoo

Why is it that the Karoo feels so small and intimate if it stretches across
so many kilometres? The landscape is incredible, the sunsets and stars
refuse to show they’re true beauty in photographs, but I think it is the people.

In Nieu-Bethesda I entered a small karoo restaurant that  looked just like a
normal karoo house. There wasn’t a soul in in the room when I walked in, so I found my way to the back of the house and was stopped by a curtain that closes the entrance  to kitchen, and then I took a seat. It wasn’t long and the smells from the kitchen pushed the curtain open and an old lady with white hair and a cloth over her shoulders said welcome.

I think it was that welcome, that’s the thing that made me feel like a
school boy in my grannies kitchen. If a place can make you travel in time, it’s a place that should be treasured!

Karoo, ek is lief vir jou.
