Today I sat at my desk and tried to remember when I started taking photographs, it was somewhere in 2007 when someone bought me a disposable camera and I remember the excitement and mystery of not knowing how the photos are going to come out. We used to go to a festival in Somerset East and I remember it so clearly, taking photos of everything that looked interesting.
In 2014 I did my first photo shoot, I asked my cousin if she wanted to do a shoot and we drove to the nearest open field, at that time I just bought my camera and I didn’t know anything about doing photo shoots, the wind was blowing really hard and my car got stuck in the mud. As chaotic as that sounds, I think that was the moment Echo Stone was born. In that moment I knew it was going to be something special and that the feeling photography gave me was something I had to cling to.
ECHO STONE PHOTOGRAPHY ” The story behind the name”
When you throw a stone down a cliff or a gorge, the stone hits the bottom and the sound echos. Photographs do the same, yes you only take the picture once, but you will always be able to look at it again and again, like hearing a echo!
My photography journey has not been easy and I felt like I was intruding a industry that is full of amazing photographers in Port Elizabeth, people that have studied to do photography. To this day I still don’t like calling myself a photographer, I just love taking photos.
